Smithsonian Folklife Festival 2014

06

On our lovely walk with our tour guests through the National Mall this afternoon, we spotted the preparations for one of the Smithsonian’s largest annual events: The Smithsonian Folklife Festival. Held every year on the National Mall since 1967, the festival features people, food, events, and items from around the world to showcase international cultural heritage.

Because it’s run by the Smithsonian, the festival is free to attend, and it is POPULAR. The festival typically draws over a million visitors, and includes daily and evening programs of performances. This year, China and Kenya will be featured, offering visitors samples of their cuisine, music, dance, storytelling and art from June 25-29 and July 2-6. Stop by between 11:00am and 5:30pm daily, or check out the evening events (schedule to be announced on their website shortly), and as always, be sure to send us your pictures!
